In February 2022, air travel rebounded strongly from January 2022, as Omicron-related impacts moderated outside Asia. February 2022 traffic (measured in revenue passenger kilometers or RPKs) was up 115.9% over February 2021. Compared with January 2021, January 2022 showed an increase of 83.1%. Emirates has confirmed that its daily service to Tel Aviv will begin on 23rd June 2022. Following a steep decline in COVID-19 infection rates in Qatar, the country updated its travel and return policy to exempt its vaccinated citizens and foreign residents from pre-arrival PCR testing. Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health issued directives that came into effect at 7pm on Monday, February 28. The update requires unvaccinated citizens and expatriates to undergo PCR testing 48 hours before departure from any of the countries placed on Qatar’s Red List travel list. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Saudi Tourism Authority (STA) and Emirates to increase inbound tourism to Saudi Arabia and attract new segments of travelers. The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA) have announced the removal of travel curbs to 12 African countries for citizens who are fully vaccinated and who have received a booster dose of the approved COVID-19 vaccines, from Sunday, 6th February at 18:00. These countries are Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Republic of Congo, South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia and Zimbabwe.
